Beta Happenings

Hello Beta Members,
Our convention is right around the corner. Please check your email for further details. Our meeting is currently scheduled for this Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 at 1:15pm. We will have our new member inductions and reception. We are also scheduled to make our flag for the convention. The theme this year is "Circle of Winners". Please email me in advance of the meeting with any ideas that you have for making the flag. We will vote on the ideas at the meeting.

Due to the weather prediction of severely cold temperatures this coming week, our meeting may have to be rescheduled if the school office closes. I will keep you posted via email.

For a service project, please remember to collect the tabs from the tops of soda cans. We can accumulate these and turn them into the Ronald McDonald House and they can exchange them for revenue to benefit their facilities. You may turn in your collected tabs at the May meeting.

Remember to check your email for updates.

Plans for Thursday

You may come as early as 12:00-12:30 to join in the joint service project with Key Club. We will be assembling decorative mugs for chemo patients. You do not need to bring anything but yourselves and a big heart for this service project.

Following the service project, we will have our Christmas party with Key Club. This will be held during the normal Beta time. We will not have a formal meeting. If you would like to bring a 2 liter drink or a snack for the party, it would be greatly appreciated.

December Meeting - Change of Plans

We will be postponing our new member inductions to our January meeting. Key Club has invited us to join them in a Christmas celebration this Thursday. Please check this blog tomorrow for additional details.

Job Well Done! Christmas Box Report

Another great year for Sr. Beta and Operation Christmas Child. We turned in 40 boxes to bring joy to children around the world this year. 9 of those boxes will be tracked. I look forward to your reports at a future Beta meeting.

November Meeting - Operation Christmas Child

November is the month where we annually have our Operation Christmas Child Service Project. Our meeting day is Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 1:15 at the Hope School Office. I will provide the wrapping paper and labels. All you need to bring is a shoe box, items to fill the box, and $7 or a prepaid label (details will follow).

Here is the website for more information: www.samaritanspurse.org/occ.

OCC is doing something a little different this year. They have, on their website (listed above), an EZpay option, where you can pay in advance via debit or credit card, and preprint your mailing label at home. Bring this label with you to Beta Club and attach it to your box. We will bring the box to the drop off location with the others. One advantage of the EZpay Option is that you will receive emails following your box to it's destination overseas. I will have the traditional labels too, so if you prefer to pay the $7 for shipping, that will work also. If you are going to share in making a shoebox gift, please bring at least $3 so that we can cover the shipping costs.

For suggestions for what to pack in the shoeboxes, please check your email or the website. Also, plastic shoeboxes are for sale at numerous retailers in our area.

Beta's October Service Project

Thank you to all who worked on our October Service Project for our troops overseas. There are pictures to post and they should be up soon. The packages were delivered to the local chapter of Blue Star Mothers. There are very grateful to us for thinking of their family members.
